ABOUT YOUR GUIDE: MARC BROMHALL

Exploring the rugged mountains of the Cape has been a lifelong passion for me. From the age of 7, my parents exposed me to the many wonderful hikes in the south peninsula.

What began as a childhood love of the outdoors has grown into a career dedicated to sharing the beauty, challenges, and rewards of hiking with others.

Today, as a qualified mountain guide and lifelong adventurer, I lead visitors from around the world on safe and memorable journeys into the Cape’s wildest and most breathtaking places.

A LIFETIME IN THE MOUNTAINS

I first started hiking in the Cape with my family, where weekends often meant heading into the Table Mountain range or venturing further afield into the dramatic Cederberg. Over the years, this turned into more than just a pastime—it became my way of life.

Along the way, I developed my skills as a rock climber, scrambler, and hiker, tackling routes that tested my endurance and sharpened my knowledge of the mountains.

Decades of experience have given me an intimate understanding of Cape Town’s diverse trails, hidden gorges, and off-the-beaten-path wonders that many visitors never get to see.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Passion is essential, but professionalism and safety are equally important when it comes to guiding others. To ensure my guests are in the best hands, I’ve earned formal qualifications that reflect both international guiding standards and the unique demands of South African terrain.

  • Adventure Site Guide Qualification (CATHSSETA certified)
  • Registered tour guide with the National Department of Tourism, South Africa
  • First Aid trained, including specialised certification in snakebite first aid

These qualifications mean I not only know the mountains intimately but also have the training and skills to handle emergencies, manage group safety, and create a positive, enriching experience for all participants.

GUIDING PHILOSOPHY

For me, guiding is about much more than getting from point A to point B. It’s about immersing people in nature, helping them discover the geological wonders, unique flora and fauna, and cultural history of the Cape mountains.

I believe that hiking should be both an adventure and a form of connection—connection to nature, to history, and to oneself. By tailoring hikes to the ability, interests, and comfort level of my guests, I ensure that every experience is both safe and deeply rewarding.

Whether you’re scrambling through the Wolfberg Cracks, standing beneath the Maltese Cross, or hiking along the cliffs of Table Mountain, my goal is to make your time in the mountains unforgettable.
